Why We Watch Movies

The first time I remember going to the movies was in 1999, I was six years old, turning seven, that year. It was the first outing that I was privy to that didn’t involve a kid’s menus, a colouring mat, or a playground. This was something adults got to do. This was something magical.

New Comic Book Shows Heading To TV

What a great time it is to be a comic book nerd! Not only are comic book movies dominating the theatres, they are now heading to our television sets. DC has already earned success, with Arrow, which is the most watched show on The CW, and Marvel launched Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., last year, to a tepid response from audiences.

It was obvious that both Marvel, and DC would launch more shows after the success of those two projects, but who would have thought that we’d be seeing the launch of this many comic book projects. DC alone is launching four comic book shows this year, while Marvel has announced the launch of the long rumoured, Agent Carter TV show, and will be releasing Daredevil next year to begin the road to their The Defenders mini series.

Here is what we know about all these shows so far.

My Most Anticipated Movies of Summer 2014

The summer movie season is about to start this week with the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which didn’t make my list. It’s the blockbuster movie season, where studios put out big bucks in order to make an even bigger investment. Like every year, this is the season where we find a big mix of movies, ranging from comedies, to super hero movies, to monster movies, to disaster films, to action-packed thrill rides. Many will turn out to be absolute crap, but a few should blow our minds.

Reasons Why You Need To Watch Happy Endings

So, last year, under the influence of narcotic infused cough syrup and antibiotics, I wrote a post trying to convince my best friend and confidant Emerald to start watching Arrow. She freaked, had a boygasm and said she’d watch the show; she never did. I’ve also told her to watch GIRLS (approx. 2 years), The Mindy Project (January of this year), Game of Thrones (think she started it but never got passed S1 E2), Breaking Bad (don’t think I even told her but now I am), Heathers (cause it was Mean Girls before Mean Girls) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (to which said, gross, no). However, she did watch Midnight In Paris…only after I bought her the DVD and then had to continuously ask her if she saw it yet.

Other people would have given up, other people would not be creating a post like this and other people would not be as obsessive as me but I ain’t no quitter, I’m a swallower. Ooo, I said that wrong.

In addition, to all those shows that I’ve already told her to watch, I’m adding a new one: Happy Endings.

The 20 Albums of my Life

I hate chain posts and I hate being tagged in chain posts and I hate people putting me on the spot to do things, through chain posts. Also, I hate Facebook, it’s an archaic, restrictive and a confusing form of social media that specifically restricts networking to family, friends and acquaintances. However, Emerald tagged me in a post to create my own list of the top 12 albums of my life. What the fuck does that mean? Are these the albums that mean the most to me or are they the albums that I personally consider to be masterpieces OR did I just write the same thing twice in different words? I don’t even know.

My Top 10 Albums of 2013

I love music too. I love film and TV more, but I love music too. I listened to a ton of albums this year. They ranged from pop to country to hip hop to rock to whatever hell Robin Thicke’s album was. Some were amazing, while some turned out to be a colossal disappointment, here’s looking at you Paramore and Fall Out Boy. Nonetheless, a lot of great albums were released this year, so many that I considered expanding my list but then it became too much work and because of how busy my life is (YES, EXTREMELY BUSY) I had to settle for 10 and a small list of honourable mentions.

Reasons Why Emerald Needs to Start Watching Arrow

NOTE: This was all done under the influence of some heavy narcotics infused cough syrup.

You’d think that Emerald being such a big DC fan that she’d already be watching Arrow but I know she doesn’t watch TV. She’s too hip, you guys, ugh commercials and she doesn’t have a DVR…I think. Nonetheless, I feel like I can provide the necessary reasons for her to start watching.

If your name isn’t Emerald, than you shouldn’t read this. You will most likely not get it. Otherwise….

Best New Fall Shows of 2013

Best new Drama

The new fall TV season is in full effect, and like every year, there are shows that are great, and some that are not. I made my way through all of new dramas, except the midseason shows, such as, Almost Human and Reign but all the new shows that have aired once this post goes up, have all been considered. I tried to narrow the shows down to my two favorites, and two that are good but could still get better, and truly captivate me. Some might question, as to where Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and The Originals are but I found their pilots to be just ok, and not as great as the ones mentioned below. Without further ado, I give you my new favorite fall dramas of 2013.

Take Five: My Top Five Films of Summer 2013

September is here and school is about to start which means that summer is over and so is the summer movie season. There were plenty of great movies, but for me, most of the tentpole movies of the summer were mediocre. Regardless, I still have 5 movies that stood above the rest.

In Defence: Let’s Give Ben Affleck a Chance

470x193_Affleck Clerks 1

470x193_Affleck Clerks 2

It has been over 48 hours since Ben Affleck was announced as the new Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel. By now people have tweeted, ranted, commented, posted, memed, petitioned and who knows what else but it does not change the fact that Ben Affleck will be the next Batman. I’ll be honest, Ben Affleck wasn’t my first choice to be Batman but he doesn’t make me go, “Why the fuck did they choose him?” All I’ve seen on the internet so far is hate and anger towards him. The people who try to defend him are engulfed by a sea of internet hate. Having a normal debate or conversation about this seems futile. I’m not here to say that Ben Affleck will be the best Batman ever but why not give him a chance. Why not listen to my reasons about why I think Affleck deserves a second chance at playing a superhero and why I think it won’t be like the last time.
